How does your body detox?

Posted by Steve Shaffer on

It’s time for spring cleaning! You’ll need a lot of energy to tackle that attic or garage, so we suggest starting with your body. Just like in our homes, clutter, or toxins, can build up in our bodies leaving us stressed, overwhelmed, and unable to function efficiently.

What are toxins?

In today’s world we are constantly in surrounded by toxins in our food, water, chemicals, and even the air we breathe. A toxin is a poisonous substance that is harmful to your body. Your body uses multiple organs and systems to clear itself of toxins. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, those toxins still build up and damage cells and tissue, leading to diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and heart disease.

It is essential to pursue activities that enhance your body’s ability to cleanse through your main detoxification organs composed of the liver, kidneys, intestines, and skin.

The star of your internal detox system is the liver. It is the main detoxification organ, ridding you of the chemicals and toxins that should not be there. Some causes of a poorly functioning liver are the accumulation of toxins from food and our environment, diets high in sugar, fried food, processed foods, and refined starches, overeating, and prescription and recreational drug use.

The kidneys play a major role in maintaining our fluid levels. They act as a purifier for the blood, removing excess water, salts, bile pigments, and cellular wastes through excretion. Water serves as the transportation system carrying toxins out of our bodies. The more water you consume, the more toxins leave your body.

The skin is our body’s largest organ, absorbing toxins from beauty and cleaning products. Our skin is typically the first to show signs of toxic overload in the form of redness, dullness, rashes, and breakouts. Exercise, saunas, and activities that promote sweating are excellent for detoxification.

Most absorption of nutrients and water happen in our intestines. Keeping our intestines healthy improves our immunity and overall health. Eating foods high in fiber helps to move food through our digestive system and clean your colon removing bacteria and other buildup in our intestines.

Eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water, and exercising area all essential to ongoing detoxing. However, sometimes our bodies need an extra boost.

How do I know my organs need help detoxing?

When toxins cannot be excreted through the liver and filtered through the kidneys, the body begins to show further symptoms of toxicity. Signs of toxic overload include weight gain, food allergies, anxiety, depression, belly bloat, low energy, and poor sleep.

How can I help my body detox?

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, a seasonal juice cleanse is a great way to experience a deep cellular detoxification and kick-start a long-term healthy lifestyle change.

Juicing treats your body with nutrients, vitamins, and raw enzymes that are easy to digest and enter the bloodstream immediately. A juice cleanse ensures you are getting adequate nutrients to support the regeneration of cells and organs while purging your body of toxic waste that can lead to health issues or a lack of vitality.

A cleanse is not a weight loss program or a one-time thing! A cleanse is a new way of thinking about your body, your lifestyle, and your diet.

If you’re interested in trying a juice cleanse, order a cleanse directly to your door at or from one of our South Florida locations.
